P2P Wins: Competitive Bidding to Improve Value
Internal users often build strong relationships with certain suppliers and may prefer to purchase exclusively from them. While these relationships can be beneficial, they can also limit opportunities for cost savings or improved value.
Last year, a planned purchase was initially directed to a single supplier before Procurement became involved. Procurement paused the transaction and initiated a competitive bidding process, obtaining quotes from additional suppliers. When the originally preferred supplier learned that competitive bids were being solicited, they revised the proposal to present a more competitive offer.
The original supplier ultimately won the business, and the organization secured improved value as a direct result of introducing competition into the sourcing process.
